● Rajnouli bridge in Bhiwandi was finally thrown open to the public on Monday after local politician raised an outcry. members of Jai Agri Seva Sanstha forcefully opened the 150m-long bridge on Mumbai-Nashik Highway.
They said the bridge, built by the MMRDA at a cost of ₹73 crore, had been completed around three months ago, but the authority was delaying its inauguration.
A traffic policeman deployed near the bridge said Yashwant Patil, president of Jai Agri Seva Sanstha, from Dapode village in Bhiwandi, with his workers, forcefully opened the bridge around 2pm on Monday.
“Hours later, the bridge was officially inaugurated by member of Parliament Kapil Patil,” the traffic officer said.
The bridge, connecting Kalyan, Thane and Bhiwandi, is expected to ease congestion on Nashik-Mumbai route and motorists will save around 25 minutes.
“The bridge has four lanes. Only two lanes of the bridge have been opened for vehicles. The other two lanes will be opened after a few days owing to minor construction work on bridge,” said a senior traffic officer from Bhiwandi traffic unit, Thane.

MMRDA to build 5 flyovers at Bhiwandi
●The proposed flyovers includes, one at Shil-Phata on the National Highway (NH) -4 which is also connected by Shil Phata Mahape Road and further extends towards Kalyan junction.
◆The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is planning to plug the major traffic bottlenecks to ease it out at major traffic junctions and entry points of MMR. The projects under planning stage would be flyovers at Shil Phata junction, Mumbra bypass junction, Mankoli junction, Ranjoli junction and Vanjarpatti junction at the total estimated cost of Rs 2bn.

The proposed flyovers includes, one at Shil-Phata on the National Highway (NH) -4 which is also connected by Shil Phata Mahape Road and further extends towards Kalyan junction. Another flyover would be at Mumbra bypass junction towards Panvel.
Third flyover would be at Mankoli junction at Bhiwandi bypass on the NH-3. There would be a flyover at Ranjoli junction on NH-3 at the intersection of Bhiwandi bypass on Kalyan-Bhiwandi Road NH-222 and fifth flyover to come up at Vanjarpatti Naka on Bhiwandi junction of  Old NH-3 on Bhiwandi-Wada road.
Mr Dilip Kawathkar, Joint Project Director (PR), MMRDA, said, “These much-required flyovers would ease out the traffic movement. The flyovers are planned at all critical entry points of MMR. Moreover, it would also enable exponential growth of the region alongside the Virar-Alibaug Corridor,” The points of projects are key connecting points of two major cities close to MMR namely, Pune and Nashik.
